SMWI Scholarship Fund

Number of Awards: 34*
Award Amount: $12,000 per year, for up to 4 years of undergraduate study for a total of up to $48,000.
*2 awards may be for Mechanical Engineering or Architecture for total of up to $108,000 for up to 5 years of undergraduate study.

Eligibility: Applicant must be a dues-paying member of a former SMWIA local union or their dependent spouse or child under the age of 25. Also, the member must have worked at least 150 hours for which contributions were made to the Fund in the calendar year prior to the closing of the contest on February 1. The applicant must be a full-time student or have been accepted to be a full-time student at an accredited college or university. The $12,000 scholarship may be used for any field of study by undergraduate students only. Scholarships will not be paid for study following the completion of a 4-year (5-year for Mechanical Engineering) undergraduate program.

Application Requirements: Once you request an application, you will receive a letter with details on the application process, including the materials required to complete your application.

Applications Available: September 1 through January 15; you must request an application no later than January 15 in order to be eligible for a scholarship

Deadline: Application must be received, and letters of recommendation and hard copy transcripts must be postmarked, no later than February 1, 2027.

SMWI Scholarship Foundation

Number of Awards: 23
Award Amount: $8,000 Single-year, for undergraduate study (23 awards)

The top three scoring awardees will also be eligible for:
$5,000 Single-year, for undergraduate study under the Joseph J. Nigro & Joey Nigro, Jr. Memorial Scholarships (2 awards)
$4,000 Single-year, for undergraduate study under the George Jeffers memorial scholarship (1 award)
